What Will Future Work Life Look Like?

Monday, July 03, 2017

With increasing demands for a better work-life balance, the EU has committed itself to promoting workplace innovation. Many argue that the idea of employees coming to an actual office is obsolete; the future workplace is, simply put, everywhere. While workplace modernisation, according to a recent PAC study, has a high priority for every second European company, a holistic concept is still to be found. Given that 63 per cent aim to further digitalise their companies in the next two years, their is an urgency for change.

When the European Commission launched EUWIN, a learning network that intends to foster workplace innovation, many expected Estonia, the digital pioneer, to play an active role in the network. Though it is open to companies, NGOs, politicians and policymakers, and researchers from every member state, Estonians have so far been reluctant to engage in the process. Apart from that, information on workplace conditions in Estonia is rare. Do employees have fixed working hours? Is there a system similar to the e-School system that is used in high schools?
